Welcome to the website of the Office of Inspector General (OIG).  The OIG's role within the City of Los Angeles is to support the Board of Police Commissioners (Commission) and the public by providing information and analysis regarding the conduct and performance of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD or Department).  The OIG functions as the "eyes and ears" of the Commission, which is a five-member civilian panel responsible for overseeing the LAPD.

The OIG is separate and independent from the Department.  Among other duties, the OIG: reviews all Department investigations into officer-involved shootings, in-custody deaths, and uses of force that result in admission to a hospital; takes complaints of misconduct against LAPD employees and monitors the Department’s investigations into such complaints for thoroughness and impartiality; conducts investigations, reviews, and audits into various aspects of the Department’s operations.

You can find more information about the OIG’s work, as well as how to reach us, here on our website.  Thank you for visiting!
